One of our State Board of Education’s duties, as listed on their site, is to advocate on behalf of students, educators, and citizens. There was no advocating on behalf of those in attendance, during their meeting on October 8th, 2013 to support Amy Edmonds and their opposition to the Common Core State Standards. Instead of questioning for further understanding or commenting on Amy Edmonds‘ wonderfully researched presentation to the board, they chose to respond in a dictatorial fashion, not allowing for the voice of those whom they are supposedly advocating for, to be heard. Instead, their response was to have two teachers give their opinion of the Common Core State Standards. The teachers only used emotional statements, calling it “good stuff” and “global readiness”, and even going so far as to claim nothing good has come from our country in years, therefore we need it (I’m grateful he is not teaching my children). Rather than presenting actual data proving that the CCSS are good for students, they used a propaganda video endorsed by the newly created position and appointed Director of Education Richard Crandall. There is no data to prove CCSS will improve education or not do harm to our children. It is an experiment and the progressive dream to affect a generation of children and benefit from data mining! So they must rely on Richard Crandall’s propaganda video (created with our tax dollars) and these poor teachers who really do not have any information, other than what they have been fed by the very creators of the common core machine! The only person on that board that was elected by the people of our state is Cindy Hill. Sadly, once she spoke out against CC, she had her powers stripped. I was grateful she chose to speak out against the misinformation that Jim McBride shared during the meeting and also vocalized her disgust that tax payer money be used in the creation of anything on either side o the issue. Where is the equality in discourse! Why wasn’t a teacher who has a very different experience with CC allowed to speak?
Vote Governor Matt Mead out of office, make your voice heard, so they will replace these board members and the appointed positions with someone that can speak for the people!
Wyoming Liberty Group was ready to take the comments from those in attendance at the meeting. You can hear the voices that were not allowed to speak out here:
